Mental health is much like physical health. When we injure ourselves we are more likely to seek help for injuries visible to the eye and ignore what is not.
This doesn't mean the emotional injury goes away. It can develop into a deeper wound. It may even cause a bigger issue leading to questions of life or death.
First we will need to identify the emotional wound, understand what it looks like and attend to its needs. Therapy provides a safe space for clients to explore and unpack the difficult feelings, thoughts and memories.
Rapport building and therapy-client fit are two crucial factors in determining successful outcome in therapy. Hence, initial session will be all about understanding the client and their needs. The first session gives opportunity for clients to openly share their concerns and issues. Goal setting and discussing expectations will also form part of the initial session.
Therapy will be introduced from the second session. Treatment model used in therapy will vary according to the client's presenting issues and goals.
